with apologies to Woody Allen…
The tiger lilies are blooming!! They’re such interesting flowers, with their turk’s cap shape and lovely freckles. The stalks are nearly 6 feet high, and they bloom from the top down bottom up, like gladiolus gladioli.
I’ve heard that tiger lilies in the garden can harbor [...]

Mulch

mulch, originally uploaded by teeveeolantern.

We received our free mulch from Arborguard over the weekend. Here’s the pile after David had already moved about 3 or 4 carts full to the backyard.
I’ve been wondering what additional exercise to add to my routine, but I think that question has been answered for awhile.

Giant Fig

giantfig, originally uploaded by teeveeolantern.

This enormous fig was hidden behind some leaves on our larger fig tree. Somehow the squirrels and birds missed it. I think it got so big because so many of the other early crop have been eaten by varmints.

Grilled Eggplant, Tofu, Onion, and Fresh Tomato Salad

Grilled Eggplant, Tofu, Onion, and Fresh Tomato Salad, originally uploaded by teeveeolantern.

This salad is adapted from Bali to Bangkok in 30 Minutes. It’s an amazing combination of salty, tangy, and sweet, with bursts of fresh mint and basil. The tomatoes, basil, and mint are from the garden. We had four kinds [...]

Magnolia Season

mag3, originally uploaded by teeveeolantern.

The magnolias are in full bloom all over AtlantaLand. They’re gorgeously fragrant – lemony and fresh. It’s also lightning bug season (firefly season to you non-Southerners out there), so it’s a nice time to sit out at night, under the magnolia. Or near it, if yours hasn’t been [...]
